My father almost converted to Nation of Islam(Elijah Muhammad, Farraakhan, etc.) in his early twenties after doing his time in the Services. He told me that he didn't stay because they were a social causes religion more than anything. He didn't feel they satisfied his spiritual yearning but they shared his contempt for white people at the time.
I know a brother in a neighboring congregation, former elder, did parts on the circuit assemblies and occasionally at district conventions, that joined a black Muslim faction. I don't know if they're affiliated with the NOI or not. Last I heard he was militant and disciplined as all hell.

" i have a feeling it wouldn't hurt to reread those old novels.. folks around here argue about gmo foods, for instance, without realizing that one of the main problems with gmo is lack of diversity, dangerous if a disease comes along that kills the main crops of the world.. and people seem to have forgotten that humans could indeed destroy themselves completely, if someone starts a nuclear war.
they always seem to think there could be survivors of an all-out nuclear war.

I always liked the apoctalyptic b-movies that channel USA showed back in the day with Gilbert Godfrey and Rhonda Up All Night. Couple months ago I made a weekend out of watching b-movies On Demand. Repo Man was classic, best Emilio Estevez film ever.

I was trying to make up my mind what I was going to do this past afternoon when I remembered seeing the preview for Flight yesterday while getting some lunch in a sports bar. So I figured I'd check the reviews out first and they seemed generally favorable. An alchoholic flight captain played by Denzel Washington, sounds good to me. You ever plan to do something like go out, but then laziness and comfortability sets in? I almost stayed home until I read the MSNBC review. It was almost like a premonition saying, "Yes you lame, go out!!! See the movie!" Here's what made me get dressed and walk out the door.
"This breath-shortening sequence is eye-poppingly realistic, with cutting Eisenstein would have admired, right down to the exquisite details of Jehovah's witnesses scrambling to get out of the way on the ground as the plane's wing clips the steeple of their rural church. Miraculously, the plane lands more or less intact, although six people die. For his part, Whip is hospitalized with minor injuries. His daring and ingenuity having saved most of the passengers from certain death, he becomes an immediate national hero."
With that, I was sold!! I was disappointed however to see that it wasn't Jehovah's Witnesses in the scene briefly described above. It was some random church with people that I'm assuming were Southern Baptists, Evangelicals, etc.? Definately, NOT Jehovah's Witnesses! I should have known even before seeing the scene for myself since the reviewer mentioned a steeple. Since when do Kingdom Halls have steeples? For a nonJW to call a KH a church, I can understand that, but how they confused Evangelicals with Jehovah's Witnesses is beyond me. Now I don't want to throw any spoilers out there for anyone planning on seeing this film, but there is a brief dialogue with Washington's character and an actress holding a big Bible and he quips something about her having "been to her meeting." There's no way to tell if she'd been to a church, a JW meeting in a KH, or what. Plus I'm sure people of other denominations might have similar lingo depending on the circumstances.
This has me wondering, is this a positive for the WT? "Like hey we're confused with Evangelicals, so we can keep on doing the crap we've been doin!!" I don't know, regardless, good film, I recommend it.

I dont wish them bad, but I dont wish them well either. At times I may post something spiteful towards them, but I'm letting off steam. I just wish they were more cognizant of how their literature makes some people's lives hell. I think they're ignorant in that regard. With so many people kissing their ass at any given time, it's impossiblefor them to know how miserable others are in the organization.

El Bloombito finally called off NYC marathon
by ShirleyW inmy empty headed mayor finally made the call, i don't know why it took it him so long, he waited until 5pm this evening to make the announcement.
i think part of the reason among many others is that on the front page of the nypost there's a picture of two generators in central park that were set up to run the tents for the marathon, heard on the news one of them could've powered 400 homes.. and the first point for the race is staten island, which got absolutely clobbered by the storm.
one hotel owner in si said that he's full with folks who've lost their homes, and although some runners made it here, he's not going to kick out his neighbors that need shelter.. btw for those who are not twitter fans like i am, el bloombito is a twitter site that makes fun of bloomberg because every time he gives a speech he always feels the need to give part of the speech in spanish, which he does horribly !.

I dont live in NY so I cant speak on his actions as mayor, but to have that race would be insulting. I'm thinking he was hoping the race would provide encouragement or foster a sense of pride. It might be an indication of how aloof and out of touch with people he is. Similar to the Bethelites letting other JWs know they're ok after the storm and making mention that still participated in Family Worship Night. They really dont have a clue about how retarded they are.
